Grocery Sidekick Privacy Policy
Effective September 5, 2026
The short version
Grocery Sidekick is provided by Yellow Labs Products (“we”, “us”). There is no account and no sign-in, and we never ask for your name, email address, or phone number. What you tell the app about yourself — the allergens you avoid, how you eat, the nutrition limits you set — stays on your phone. We cannot see it.
What stays on your device
- Your preferences: the allergens and ingredients you watch for, your eating pattern, and any nutrition limits you set.
- Your scan history.
- The product database the app ships with, which is stored on your phone and searched there.
- Reading a label. Photographing an ingredient panel or a nutrition panel is processed entirely on your device by Apple's on-device text recognition. Those photos are not uploaded.
What leaves your device
Four things, and nothing else.
- A barcode we do not already hold. When you scan a product that is not in the database on your phone, we send just that barcode number to Open Food Facts, an independent open food database, to ask what it is. No identifier of yours goes with it.
- Ingredients we could not identify. When a label uses a word our dictionary does not know, the app reports that word to us, along with the product’s barcode, brand, name, and ingredient statement as printed on the package. This is how the dictionary improves. It describes a product, not a person.
- A photo, only if you ask us to identify a product. If a barcode is not in any database, the app offers to identify the product from a photo. Choosing that sends the photo to our server and to a third-party AI service that reads it. Photos taken to read an ingredient or nutrition label are not sent — see above.
- Your subscription status. Purchases are handled by Apple and by RevenueCat, which tells the app whether a subscription is active. Apple does not give us your payment details, and we never see your card.
Requests to our own server carry a random token created the first time the app runs and kept in your device’s keychain. It exists so we can rate-limit abuse. It is not tied to your Apple ID, your device identifiers, or anything else about you, and it is gone when you delete the app.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your information, and there is nothing here to sell.
- We use no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. The app contains none.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not build a profile of you.
- We do not collect your location, contacts, photo library, or health records.
How long we keep things
Reports about unidentified ingredients and any photo you send for identification are kept while they are useful for improving the app, and are not linked to you. Everything else lives on your phone: deleting Grocery Sidekick deletes your preferences and your history, and we have no copy to delete.
Children
Grocery Sidekick is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
What the app is not
Grocery Sidekick reports what a product’s ingredient list says. It is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for reading the package. Recipes change, packaging is reformulated, and our database can be out of date or wrong. If you have a food allergy, always read the label itself before you eat something.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes we will post the new version here and update the date at the top. Questions, or a request about your information, go to support@yellowlabsproducts.com.
